About the District

Mercer County School District #404 is located in northwest Illinois and covers an area of 370 square miles making it the fifth largest district in the state. The district was created in 2009 as a result of a consolidation of the Westmer and Aledo School Districts. The district serves approximately 1,500 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in five buildings. A list of the buildings is given below.

School Grades Served Location
Mercer County High School 9-12 Aledo
Mercer County Junior High 7-8 Joy
Mercer County Intermediate 5-6 Aledo
New Boston Elementary Pre-K – 4 New Boston
Apollo Elementary Pre-K – 4 Aledo

The district is located in Mercer, Rock Island and Henderson Counties with the majority of the land being in Mercer County. The community's 150-year history is rooted in agriculture, but some residents now work in the nearby metropolitan areas of Muscatine, Burlington and an area locally known as The Quad Cites (Rock Island, Moline, Davenport, and Bettendorf). Towns located within the district boundaries include:

Aledo Joy
New Boston Keithsburg
Seaton Eliza
Millersburg Hamlet

A long history of educational excellence, parental involvement, and community support characterize the district. A broad array of academic and extra-curricular opportunities are available to the students.

School Report Cards

The Illinois School Code requires school districts to post their annual School Report Cards that are generated by the Illinois State Board of Education. As a result of the Mercer County School District’s recent consolidation, all of the schools have a different configuration. It is, therefore, difficult to draw conclusions about our current student population at each school using the “old” report cards. Those who are interested in viewing the School Report Cards for the former Aledo School District and the former Westmer School District, can follow this link to gain access to them.
